Step By Step Patcher V1.0B special release for the Public Domain.
©1993 Christophe CARVAJAL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
0. Why this program ?
I personnaly own a Roland JV30 and got bored of having to play with 12000
different buttons for editing my sounds I designed a fully mouse driven
editor which compose the main window of this program. I also work with
the startrekker 1.3 on 8 voices-midi mode and couldn't save my sound
configuration (PERFORMANCE) inside the module (even if the macro
instructions are available but it's very boring to use).
So each time my synth was turned off I lost my sound configuration
parameters (the JV30 can store 8 performances but the problem occured is
you have written more than 8 pieces of music, the poor SC55 has only one
performance memory so this program os very usefull for SC55 users)
The General Midi / GS is a way of organizing presets in a way that if you
write a sequence (midi module) for one GS SYNTH, you'll without change be
able to listen to this music as if it was composed on another GS synth.
1. What is this program for ?
This program allows you to create/store new sounds patches for your synths.
It has been developped to make the editing operations as simple as possible.
2. Requirements.
To Use this program you need to have a GS/General Midi compatible instrument
like the roland SC-55/JV-30/JW-50/SC-7 or Korg 03R/W or Yamaha TG-100.......
It's compatible on most Amiga configurations, tested on A2000B-HD40Mo-3MoRam
but if it doesn't work on your config please feel free to write to me and
tell me what's your config and the bug that occured + your OS version number
(TESTED on 1.3,3.0).
3. This version.
This version is a demo version without the SAVE features, you can order the
fully working version (including some extras) by sending me $30.00 at :
>>>>>>>>> Christophe CARVAJAL 3 rue du Gat 31820 PIBRAC (FRANCE). <<<<<<<<<
4. Register.
If you order this fully working version you'll become a registered user and
you'll be able to update your version of Step By Step Patcher if you send me
your original disk plus $5.00 for shipping.
WARNING WARNING !!! I (Christophe CARVAJAL) am working on a very powerfull
music software for each AMIGA and MIDI music fan. You'll know more about
it when you'll register.
5. How does it work ?
As you can see this program is fully intuition driven and you can use menus
and gadgets as well.
There are actually 4 menus :
- Projet Menu.
- Channel Menu.
- Preset Menu.
- Drumkit Menu.
6. Program description :
You can handle with this program 16 patches (a patch is an ensemble of
parameters that create a specific sound in your synth).
An ensemble of 16 patches is called a Performance.
In midi you have 16 channels , so you have 1 patch per channel.
Ex: You can have Channel 1 , patch 1 = ACCOUSTIC PIANO......
7. The Project MENU :
This menu contains the following features :
- Load/Save PATCH : It allows you so load/save the patches you create on
disk.
- Load/Save PERF : It allows you so load/save your performances on disk.
- About : A little advert.
- Quit : A way of leaving this program.
8. The Channel MENU :
- Each item of this menu allows you to select the current active channel
(EG the channel on which the patch you are editing is connected).
A checkmark shows you which of the 16 channels you are using.
9. The Preset MENU :
- This is an important menu because it allows you to change the current
active sound of your synth, it's organized in 16 banks and inside each
bank you can find many sounds.
You can choose any sound you want on any channel exept on the CHANNEL10
that is reserved for the drumkits.
When you choose a sound in this menu, your synth will automatically
be set to this sound on the current channel.
10. The Drumkit MENU :
- This menu allows you to choose which drumkit you want to choose.
11. The main window :
- This window allows you to manipulate 14 proportionnal gadgets. Each
of them has a specific fonction on the sound , volume , reverb.....
(try to move several of them and press the TEST PATCH gadget)
- Inside this window you can find a Status string that tells you what
you're doing and what happens.
- The TEST PATCH gadget allows you to listen the sound you're working
on, when you release it the sound stops.
If the sound doesn't stop press it again.
- The CLR.PERF allows you to clear your performance (the 16 patch or
less you have edited).
- The MIDI/ON-OFF allows you to free the serial port for another program.
- The SEND PERF gadget will send all the patches you have edited to your
synth.
- The YES/NO gadget are here to make you confirm the messages appearing
in the status string. (The screen flashes if an error occured or if
you have to answer YES or NO to the status questions).
- The GS PREST NAME and CURRENT CHANNEL texts show you information about
the base-preset you've chosen and the channel you've selected.
- There are also 2 string gadgets in which you can enter a PERFORMANCE
NAME and a CUSTOM PERSET NAME.
Why ?
If you have composed a tune called ?TARI IS DEAD with your own edited
patches
ex: channel 1 = BRASS (GS STANDARD NAME) NICE BRASS (CUSTOM PRESET NAME)
... channel16 = SAXO ALTO (GS NAME) WONDER SAX(CUSTOM PRESET NAME)
You have typed ?TARI IS DEAD as the performance NAME.
You have typed NICE BASS as custom preset name on channel 1.
You have typed WONDER SAX as custom preset name on channel 16.
Now you just have so save your patches or the full performance and
when you'll want to playback this tune, if you have lost the
performance parameters from your synth memory, just load STEP BY STEP
PATCHER and load into it your PERFORMANCE and press SEND PERF, now
your synth is ready for playing the hit of the year !
12. The GS RESET and the begin of program window.
When you enter this program, you have a screen that proposes you to
initialise you synth in GS/GENERAL MIDI mode or not. Why ?
My JV30 initialises itself in JV30 mode so , if I send to it GS infos
it well not care of them, but it you send him a GS-MIDI RESET every
thing will be all right. (The SC-55 is always in GS MODE so...)
The GS-MIDI-RESET will not delete the 8 performances memory on a JV30
or JW-50(?) but it will only delete the 1 performance memory on the
SC-55, that think is frequently done by GENERAL MIDI SEQUENCES.
13. Last words :
In this disk you must find the following files :
- SBS_PATCHER1.0B
- SBS_PATCHER1.0B.info
- English.doc
- English.doc.info
- French.doc
- French.doc.info
